For the absolute spirgins among you, this will all go below the fold.
For those who think young… I did not realize this was a Pepsi tagline. It was used in 1961, and bridged the way to the Pepsi Generation in ‘63.
Addendum: Mary McNamara of Multichannel News/Variety posted this old spot first, which is how I learned of it. Her whole article is awesome, and full of raves about S2 Ep 1, but I warn you, it is spoileresque. If you’re hungry, it satisfies, but I had to stop midway because it was spoiling my appetite.

um – yeah – mary mcnamara, the multichannel news (part of Variety) television critic posted that in her review yesterday. maybe a little credit is due for the heads up on that?

True dat. I was waaay tired and a bit crippled (there’s been a lower back thing and I’ve been writing from a horizontal position for the last few days, which is like, hard) but had in fact thrown her into my roundup, which is coming soon.
But yes, I totally got that from her post, and as I said, more was coming about that. Still, addendum posting now.

Wow, Mary’s story is really detailed. Definitely spoileresque, and allows for much wild speculation. I’m sated…for the time being. It reminded me that one of the things I had hoped the Season 1 DVDs had along with lots of extra was a bibiliography of all the literary, cinematic, and musical references that influenced the show and/or characters.

I knew what the source of the title was from; Mad Men has got me reading about advertising history. But I hadn’t read Mary McNamara and now I won’t. If the season premiere was like, 2 months away, I might be tempted, but it’s too soon, I can almost taste it.

I’m kind of surprised you didn’t know about the Pepsi thing earlier.
I guess it’s deeply imprinted on my brain from that Super Bowl commerical with Britney Spears from a few years back, where they re-enacted Pepsi advertising over the ages? That had all of us going “For those who think young!” for weeks.

Okay so that’s embarrassing. You can pretty much count on me and Deborah to not be on top of cultural references that occur around the superbowl.
