So like, do you guys need a name? You, the readers, the commenters, the participants. The group that the lurkers aspire to someday de-lurk and become a part of.
Kissers? Madmenites? (how cult-like does that sound!) Baskers?
All the cool kids are doing it.
Deb’s idea, and I kinda blew it off, but yet, here I am posting.
Have at it.

THE BASKETEERS?
June 22, 2008 at 2:13 pm
Basketeers is funnier than anything Roberta or I thought of!
June 22, 2008 at 2:13 pm
Oh! We may have a winner straight outta the… however you finish that!
June 22, 2008 at 2:14 pm
Funny, but also natural, rolls off the… however you finish that.
I feel like we are two very dumb sister writers, but heck, we do some good work.

I’m four square behind Basket Cases! It seems to cover all the important bases: fanatic, passionate, highly opinionated about the subject matter, and ever teetering on the edge of genius and insanity. It’s a very good big tent name for all Mad Men fans.
Best of all, “Basket Cases” – I have no preference if anyone decides whether it should be one word or two – has a nice “edge” to it without being crass, and frankly, I think that rather describes most of us here. (Except for me, I enjoy getting my “crass” on – provides me some relief from the stress of life).
I certainly appreciate the inventiveness of “Basketeers”, but it’s just too cutesie for my taste, too goody-two-shoes. I think the whole crew at Sterling Cooper would approve of “Basket Cases”.
June 22, 2008 at 6:32 pm
Haha, I like “Basketcases” 😛
Perfectly explains our obsession with this amazing show.
June 22, 2008 at 10:12 pm
I like BoKers because it’s kind of cryptic. I think I’d soon grow tired of basket case or basketeer.
June 22, 2008 at 10:51 pm
hullaballoo – re: BoKers – are you saying it like “B-O-K-ers” or like “Bockers”?
If we do go with “Basket Cases” – and frankly, who says we have to limit ourselves to just one – (the Lipp Sisters having the final word, of course), it could be shortened as needed to simply “Cases” or “Case Heads” or “Basket Heads” since adding “head” to the end of a fan group name seems still to be au courant .
Oh shit, that leads us right back to words, phrases, and anachronisms. We know that Grateful Dead fans became
“Dead Heads”, but does anyone know if that was the first use of “head” for a fan group? (I specify fan group to eliminate drug terms like “Dope Head”).
June 23, 2008 at 12:13 am
To-may’-tow, to-mah’-tow. Either works.
June 23, 2008 at 1:31 am
How about ‘kissers’, ‘lipsmackers’, ‘smudgers’, ‘smearers’?
Just throwing more options for the ballot paper.
Great site btw.
June 23, 2008 at 8:19 am
Thanks, redcoat, welcome.
Oaktown, I think “head” was a drug term picked up by Grateful Dead fans, for whom, let’s be real, it served (serves) a dual purpose.
June 23, 2008 at 2:30 pm
Deborah – right, of course. But were Grateful Dead fans the first fan group to do it?
June 23, 2008 at 2:56 pm
Yeah, that’s what I meant: I meant yes. I mean, I haven’t got citations in front of me, but I’m old, and Deadheads are the first group I remember doing it, and not only that, no one else did it for the longest time.

Is this a name for being fans of the show, or readers of BoK? If it’s strictly in reference to the blog, I like Basketeers (gives a nod to the era of the show)… although I like Basketcases also… Either one is sufficiently witty, but I’m curious to see how fans of the show should be described (other than the obvious Madman/woman)?
June 23, 2008 at 11:21 pm
We were looking for a name for our blog peeps. I think I typed “commenter” one time too many, and wanted a name for people who comment or lurk here. At Shakesville, for example, they’re “Shakers.”
Fans of the show? Hmmm…that’s another good question. Madders?
June 24, 2008 at 12:22 am
It may be too obvious, but I do like Madhatters (or Mad Hatters) for fans of the show. After all, hats really were still in fashion back then.

I do like Basket Cases. You know, it goes well together with Mad Men.
June 25, 2008 at 3:26 pm
No preference here.
June 25, 2008 at 5:07 pm
I’d vote for Basketeers… or Basket Cases. It has to be catchy! And I’m not lurking anymore, yay!
Anyway, did anyone see that there’s a picture of Betty in the main page of IMDb? I mean, right now! They just updated it with some second season photos. I had seen all but two. Check it out! http://www.imdb.com and http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0804503/mediaindex
June 25, 2008 at 6:03 pm
Oh, hey, I did see that on IMDb, and meant to post about it, but my goodness, we had a busy day here at the Basket.
June 25, 2008 at 6:11 pm
Clarice, welcome out of the lurkee closet.
I hadn’t seen some of the photos before either, but the ones I hadn’t seen are from S1. We have all the S2s here.
June 26, 2008 at 1:56 pm
Basket Cases. Gotta be.
June 26, 2008 at 3:40 pm
My vote…Basket Case!
June 26, 2008 at 4:55 pm
I’m for Basket Cases as well.
