We just received an email from a self-proclaimed long-time BoK lurker. (We love that more of you are de-lurking!)
She is an Emmy voter, and just received… ahh, screw it, I’ll just pull it from the email.
As a long-time “lurker” on your blog, I wanted to give you the heads up (if you’re interested) that as an Emmy voter I just received AMC’s Emmy “For Your Consideration” DVD package today containing six episodes each of “Breaking Bad” and “Mad Men.” I was so excited that they sent half the season that of course it’s in my DVD player right now. The episodes AMC is sending out for consideration are as follows:
“Smoke Gets In Your Eyes”
“5G”
“The Hobo Code”
“Long Weekend”
“Nixon vs. Kennedy”
“The Wheel”I wouldn’t want the job of narrowing the selection down! Can’t wait to vote for my favorite newcomer!
That is a lot of great stuff to pull from. A-freaking-mazing!
She gave me permission to print this, but I posted so fast I didn’t ask if I could print her name, so I didn’t. So R, feel free to out yourself if you like. And thanks for the scoop!
Kisses,
R & D

Man, you all are on fire today. This is also great scoopage! The only episode that’s not included that maybe could have been, in my opinion, is Babylon, and maybe Shoot for the technical awards (art direction, cinematography, etc.). But otherwise, those choices are spot on.

Both fine episodes… Shoot is arguably the best of the season. But then, look at our choices.. They’re all brilliant, with the exception of, in my lesseningly-humble opinion, Red in the Face.

You know I just saw a few items on ebay yesterday that were called “Mad Men 2008 Emmy DVD sets.” I wasn’t sure what they were. I guess now I know!

Yay! I am no longer spam! At least for today.

Great picks! Five of the stronger episodes, IMHO!

Roberta, no it didn’t. I rescued 2 wisefish posts from spam today. I am inquiring with WordPress about the problem.

Sizzling scoops, ladies …
Babylon omission is a little strange since it fits so well in between 5G and Hobo Code.

Based on our past discussions, let’s look at Smoke and Wheel as the “series” category, Wheel as the Jon Hamm episode, Long Weekend as the Slattery episode, Hobo Code as the writing/directing episode, and maybe NvK as Elisabeth Moss. I think 5G is also more for writing and for Hamm, and Hobo Code showcases Bryan Batt. Without Babylon, I don’t think Christina Hendricks is showcased.

Now I’m confused: Due to an article @ LAT article at May 9th (?), one of the shows AMS submitted for an emmy was “New Amsterdam”:
“BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR
Vincent Kartheiser – “New Amsterdam” – Episode 4″
So I’m wondering why this episodes wasn’t in the package…
May 28, 2008 at 8:40 am
That is confusing; I wonder if he’s being pushed forward via NvK or The Wheel?
May 28, 2008 at 1:17 pm
The Wheel is the best written of them, and I think the one where Jon is best as well.
I haven’t looked at a slide projector the same since I saw it.
May 28, 2008 at 1:21 pm
I think it’s the best episode for Hamm beyond a doubt. I thnk Hobo Code may be my favorite for the writing; the intricate weaving of past and present, the coded language as various layers of “hobo code.”
Or Babylon.
Or, I dunno, the other 11.

‘cept Red in the Face. Which has moments of brilliance, but overall not a winner.

Agreed.
